Trophy Winners List - 2002
This years event had a total of 65 pre entrants, of which 59 competed on the day, including an original billy carts from the 1960s and from as far away as Sydney. There were approximately 300-400 spectators. Barry Palmer from KLFM compered the event and trophies and prizes were awarded by Member for Bendigo West Mr Bob Cameron and Mt Alexander Shire Mayor Peter Skilbeck. The weather was very threatening this year and no doubt kept many entrants and spectators away, however the rain held off long enough to complete all the runs although the trophy presentation and pack up was done in the rain. The event was supported by the Mt Alexander Shire, Castlemaine Police, Castlemaine Blue Light, Castlemaine Swimming Club, Castlemaine Primary School, Castlemaine C.F.A, Chewton C.F.A, Castlemaine SES & St Johns Ambulance. The event was sponsored by Mt Alexander Shire, Star Electronics, Extremity Street & Surf, Jermyns Records, Graaf Computer Systems & GCom Internet, Olivers Sports, Capones Pizza, Fuel Restaurant, Castlemaine Traditional Smallgoods and Total Image Signs & Graphic Design. A special thank you to all the individuals who donated their time to help, Barry Palmer for supplying all the P.A. equipment and keeping the crowd entertained all day and all participants. A 100kg empty cart weight limit was set for this year (although not strictly enforced) but will be a strict requirement in 2003 due to Public Liability Insurance issues. The track was also made safer this year with more hay bails, netting to hold the bails together at critical points and more marshalls. We will hold the 7th annual Billy Cart Bash on 18th May 2003 (2nd last Sunday) so start getting your carts together now. Any further enquiries to Dave Petrusma on 0417 135 240. If you are not from the Shire, why not make a weekend of it next year and stay in Historic Castlemaine or District.
